How Much Does AI Visibility (AEO) Cost in 2026?
An honest pricing breakdown

April 18, 2026 · Chris Igbojekwe · 11 min read

AEO is now a budget line for a third of enterprise marketing teams (Gartner, 2026), and the services market behind it is projected at $2-6B by end of year. Pricing is stabilizing but still volatile — and most published pricing pages are useless PR fluff.

I've scoped, priced, and delivered AEO engagements from $5,000 to $80,000 over the past 18 months. Here's the honest pricing breakdown across the six tiers of AEO service — what each actually includes, what drives cost up or down, and what you should budget based on your situation.

The six tiers

Pick the tier that matches your maturity, resources, and stakes — not your aspiration. Most mid-market brands should be in tier 3 or 5.

1

DIY (tooling only)

$0 – $500/mo

Timeline: Ongoing

Self-serve tools for schema generation, citation monitoring, and llms.txt — run by an internal team member. Free tiers cover basics; paid plans add monitoring across multiple AI platforms.

Good for

Small businesses with strong in-house technical skills and simple sites. Also a useful supplement alongside a consultant engagement.

Watchouts

Tools don't fix architectural problems. If your site has JS-buried content or weak schema, tooling alone won't move citations.

2

Freelancer (one-time audit + recommendations)

$1,500 – $5,000

Timeline: 2 – 4 weeks

A solo practitioner runs an AEO audit and delivers a report with prioritized recommendations. Implementation is handed to your team. Some freelancers will also implement for an hourly or small fixed-price add-on.

Good for

Early-stage companies who need to know what to fix but have in-house dev and content resources to implement.

Watchouts

Wide quality variance. Check for specific client case studies with measurable citation outcomes. Avoid freelancers who show audit deliverables but no implementation results.

3

Specialist consultant (audit + implementation guidance)

$5,000 – $25,000 per project, or $2K-$8K/month retainer

Timeline: 4 – 8 weeks (project) or ongoing

A senior AEO consultant runs the audit, builds a prioritized implementation plan, and works closely with your team through execution. Includes schema specification, content restructuring guidance, entity signal cleanup, and monitoring setup.

Good for

Mid-market companies with in-house dev capacity who need expert direction and don't want a full agency engagement.

Watchouts

You're paying for strategy + guidance. If your internal team can't or won't execute, the consultant's work doesn't land.

4

Boutique AEO agency (retainer)

$3,000 – $10,000/month

Timeline: 3 – 12 month engagements

Small senior-led agency handles AEO work on an ongoing basis — audits, content restructuring, schema implementation, monitoring, quarterly reviews. Typically limited to AEO-specific work, not redesign.

Good for

Mid-market brands with existing sites that need ongoing AEO optimization rather than a one-time rebuild.

Watchouts

Verify they can implement, not just advise. Many so-called boutique AEO agencies are 2-3 person shops that outsource implementation.

5

Redesign + AEO bundle (boutique)

$25,000 – $80,000 per engagement

Timeline: 6 – 12 weeks

Full redesign with AEO built in from day one — strategy, design, engineering, SEO migration, schema, llms.txt, content restructuring, citation monitoring. One team, one engagement, one outcome.

Good for

Businesses planning a redesign anyway who want to capture AI visibility without a second vendor. Also ideal for brands whose sites have fundamental architectural issues (JS-buried content, no schema) that a bolt-on AEO project won't solve.

Watchouts

Few agencies actually do this well. Verify the agency can ship both redesign and AEO with senior people — not design shops tacking on an AEO package with junior implementation.

6

Enterprise AEO agency

$12,000 – $50,000+/month or $100K-$500K per engagement

Timeline: 6+ months minimum

Large agency with full-stack capabilities — content strategy, schema engineering, technical SEO, citation monitoring, reporting dashboards, dedicated account teams. Usually bundled with broader SEO or content marketing retainers.

Good for

Enterprise teams with multi-site, multi-language, or multi-brand portfolios that need programmatic AEO at scale.

Watchouts

Slow, bureaucratic, expensive. Much of the work is executed by junior staff. Decision-making loops can stall progress. Default choice for Fortune 500, overkill for mid-market.

What drives cost up

Not all AEO engagements cost the same. Here's what moves a project from the lower end to the upper end of each tier:

Multi-language or multi-region sites

Each locale needs its own schema markup, hreflang handling, and AI-crawlability verification. Doubles or triples the engagement scope vs. a single-language site.

Legacy platforms (WordPress with heavy plugin bloat, older CMS)

Technical debt significantly increases the effort to implement server-rendered content, clean schema, and fast Core Web Vitals. Migration is often cheaper than remediation.

Large content libraries (500+ pages)

Every indexable page needs schema, content quality review, and internal linking optimization. Scope scales roughly linearly with content volume.

Complex enterprise approval workflows

Legal review on content changes, multi-stakeholder approval chains, and security/compliance audits all extend timelines and cost.

Custom integrations (product databases, CRM, search)

If your product catalog or CRM data feeds into on-page content, that content needs server-side rendering and schema wrappers. Custom engineering.

What drives cost down

Existing content foundation is solid

If your content is already thoughtful and well-written, restructuring for entity clarity is faster than rewriting. Can cut content-phase cost by 40-60%.

Modern stack (Next.js, Astro, static-site generators)

Sites already server-rendering content skip the biggest technical remediation step. Expect 20-30% cost reduction vs. a legacy platform rebuild.

Existing SEO foundation (Google rankings, organized IA)

Strong traditional SEO signals make AI visibility implementation materially faster. AEO and SEO share foundations; having one already in place accelerates the other.

Tight scope (10-20 priority pages, not the full site)

Focus on the 20% of pages driving 80% of commercial value. Skip the low-traffic long tail until foundations are proven on high-priority pages.

In-house content or dev capacity

If your team can handle content restructuring or basic schema implementation, you can pay the consultant/agency only for strategy and QA — often 50-70% cheaper.

The hidden cost: waiting

The question isn't “is AEO worth the spend” — it's “what's the cost of being invisible to AI for another 6-12 months while my competitors get cited.”

Multiple B2B aggregators now report AI-referred visitors converting 30-45% higher than paid ads. If your category is already being answered by ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini — without your brand in the answer — you're losing deals silently. That's not a hypothetical; it's measurable with a 15-minute query set test.

A $25,000 AEO engagement that starts citations appearing within 60-90 days typically pays for itself inside the first 2-3 qualified inbound leads. For mid-market B2B, that's often a single-quarter ROI.

How to budget

Five rules I give every client sizing their AEO budget:

  1. 1.Start with an audit. A $3K-$8K specialist audit tells you whether your site needs foundational rebuild or can get by with incremental work. Never skip this step.
  2. 2.Match the tier to the problem. If your issues are architectural (no schema, JS-buried content), tier 5 or 6. If foundations are solid, tier 2 or 3 is often enough.
  3. 3.Bundle redesign + AEO if you're already planning a redesign. Doing them separately costs 40-70% more and creates handoff risk. The bundle is almost always the right move.
  4. 4.Budget for post-launch. AEO isn't a one-time project. Plan $2K-$5K/month for 3-6 months of monitoring and content expansion after launch. The first 90 days is where citation patterns emerge.
  5. 5.Compare total cost, not monthly rate. A $25K fixed engagement that delivers citations in 90 days is cheaper than $4K/month for 12 months with no citation results. Measure cost per qualified AI-referred lead, not cost per month.

Our approach and pricing

For transparency, here's where we fit on this map. Seed App operates in tier 5: redesign + AEO bundles. Engagements start at $25,000 for a focused scope and typically land $40K- $80K for mid-market brands doing a full redesign with AEO baked in from day one.

We also take on standalone AEO work — audits at $5K and implementation retainers at $3K-$6K/month — but the strongest ROI comes from the redesign bundle, because it avoids retrofitting AEO onto sites that weren't built for it.
